“Laser-Induced Graphene and MXenes on Polymer Substrates for Wearable Devices” are some of the solutions the GRAPHERGIA project innovators are developing to advance sustainable energy across Europe. And that exactly is the title of the next GRAPHERGIA Hub Webinar Series, co-organized with Project Polygraph on Thursday 13 November 2025 at 12:00 CET.

REGISTER HERE.

This one-hour online event (hosted via Zoom) will showcase cutting-edge advances in wearable sensor technologies, with a special focus on how laser-assisted graphene deposition and MXene thin films are revolutionizing flexible, skin-compatible electronics. During the session, Spyros Yannopoulos (GRAPHERGIA Coordinator) and Marko Spasenović (POLYGRAPH Coordinator) will guide the discussion.

Whether you are a researcher, innovator, company representative or simply interested in the future of wearable devices and 2D-materials, we welcome you to our webinar!

HAVE A LOOK AT THE AGENDA AND SPEAKERS.

In GRAPHERGIA, we host a webinar series dedicated to three domains: intellectual property rights, technical webinars and scientific sessions. The aim of our webinar series is to share with you insights and findings from the GRAPHERGIA project empowering future energy harvesting and storage with graphene. Our November 2025 event is the third of the webinars that we organize as part of the GRAPHERGIA Hub activities.

GRAPHERGIA Year 2: Bridging Research and Industry for Sustainable Energy Innovation

Launched in October 2023 under the umbrella of the Graphene Flagship, GRAPHERGIA entered its third year with significant momentum. Over the course of Year 2 (October 2024–September 2025), the consortium of 11 partners from six European countries has turned early concepts into tangible technological advances, paving the way toward sustainable and scalable graphene electrode manufacturing to unlock the potential of textile-integrated energy devices and next-generation lithium-ion batteries (LIBs).

As the project moves closer to demonstrator validation, Year 2 has been marked by breakthroughs in materials, device integration, life-cycle sustainability, and innovation community-building with the launch of the GRAPHERGIA Hub.

CHECK OUR INNOVATORS’S HIGHLIGHTS ABOUT OUR SECOND YEAR OF RESEARCH.

To advance our energy innovation, in person meetings are key. After kicking-off the project in Patras (Greece) and gathering in Prato (Italy), the GRAPHERGIA partners met in person for the third time in a general assembly in Paris (France), in a meeting organized by Philippe Basset, Professor at ESIEE PARIS, the Engineering School of Université Gustave Eiffel, and Director of ESYCOM, a laboratory dedicated to sensors and communicating systems. The assembly, celebrated on 5-6 May 2025, focused on reviewing the status of all our work packages and their tasks to make sure we are all aligned to transform the European energy landscape.

As part of our activities of our second year, GRAPHERGIA introduced students to modern scientific instrumentation through school visits. Under the “Open Doors for Schools” program, the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (FORTH/ICE-HT), the GRAPHERGIA project coordinator, annually invites local schools via the Secondary Education Authority of Western Greece to tour its facilities. In the 2024–2025 school year, 623 students aged 14-18 from 13 schools participated in the program in which GRAPHERGIA was presented.

Inside the GRAPHERGIA Lab: Interviews with our Early-Career Researchers

Sangha Mitra aims to advance sustainable energy solutions by creating novel materials with minimal environmental impact. She is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (FORTH/ICE-HT), where through the GRAPHERGIA project she intends to provide safe, flexible, and high-performance energy storage to contribute to a climate neutral future.

Her research focuses on the development of dry graphene electrodes by eco-friendly laser-assisted technology, as well as next-generation microsupercapacitors made using non-toxic ionic liquid-based gel electrolytes. Working in GRAPHERGIA and exchanging knowledge with other innovators, Sangha now feels that her confidence in pursuing a career in energy materials research has increased.

Spreading the word about GRAPHERGIA’s Research: Our 2025 Events Chronicles

The 20th edition of Graphene Week, held in a rainy Vicenza (Italy) from 22 to 26 September 2025 under the auspices of the Graphene Flagship, provided a vibrant and fertile stage for GRAPHERGIA to share its vision, engage new collaborators, and strengthen ties within the graphene community. Over five days of talks, workshops, posters, networking, and podcasts, the GRAPHERGIA innovators had multiple opportunities to present their ongoing research and deepen the project’s footprint in the European graphene‑energy landscape.

Although Graphene Week is normally our event of the year, we have also participated in eight events since May 2025. Check them below:

The GrapheneEU Community: Collaboration is Key

In our vision of considering collaboration with the Graphene EU community as key to advance our graphene and 2D materials research, in GRAPHERGIA we always engage and create new synergies with the Graphene Flagship and its projects.

This year, besides co-organizing joint workshops and webinars, we have also distributed two publications that we invite you to download and read below:

The rest of the GRAPHERGIA publications can be accessed in the new page that we have created on the GRAPHERGIA website: GRAPHERGIA Hub Resources.

Together, we are not just innovating, we are forging a network of researchers, industry partners and stakeholders committed to transforming the way energy is harvested, integrated and stored in everyday life.
